Adam Grant speaks to this type of guy in takers and givers. Not hard to figure out which side of he is on.

Seems there are always people who show up to the table when the food is ready with nothing but an appetite. Where founders and business owners are more along the lines of stone soup. (the kids book) It is great to show up hungry but bring something to kitchen, labor, food, drink and effort.

As an accidental founder (with a ton of questions, this was gold to read, thank you! As a REALTOR i feel like I know who you talked to. Thank you for being a bright light in the startup abyss.

I think anyone who spends enough time around real estate will, unfortunately, meet a few of these characters. I can imagine a couple of real people I've met in the industry saying these things to you. Mouthwash and move on!

These people are everywhere, usually circling young/new and desperate founders they see with potential. If we don't value ourselves, nobody will!

This was interesting! My background is in sales, and talking a lot is definitely a sign of bad sales. Following their close via text too… though it seems like there were many red flags. When people see a smart, competent person doing things, they want to see how they can hitch themselves to that opportunity. It’s complimentary, but usually the idea is it benefits them with little work or consideration for the hardship. I appreciate you sharing your experience! Someone like this guy is probably good at strong arming people who aren’t prepared.
